About Us

Innovation on Science Education (INNOVEC) is a non-profit organization created by the U.S.-Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC) in 2002 to promote science in basic education through the support and application of Hands-on Inquiry Centered Science Education Systems (HOICS) in Mexico, activity that FUMEC had realized since 1999.

INNOVEC is convinced that HOICS contributes to the development of knowledge and capabilities in childhood in order to face reality, solve problems, make decisions and obtain a greater autonomy.

The development of these capabilities since the early stages of learning is a duty that cannot be postponed considering the challenges faced in a global world of economies based on technological development and of social and political challenges that request talent, creativity, participation and teamwork. These elements are developed by students through the HOICS.

HOICS contributes to raise the quality of basic education by stimulating the needed capabilities for a permanent learning and by favoring the practice of intellectual and reflexive skills that are essential in the education programs of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP).

These systems focus on children because through HOICS they increase their vocabulary, relate and compare basic concepts and make definitions and examples according to their levels of development. Children that work with HOICS are able to report observations, ask questions, make predictions and describe the material, equipment and procedures used. They also exercise their talent, curiosity, persistence, tolerance and especially they develop their sensitivity and respect for all living beings and the environment. Students that learn through HOICS are active subjects of their own learning.

Teachers play an important role in the learning process of children and these systems allows them to enrich their teaching activity by giving them the materials and precise didactic orientation to teach science in classrooms.

The program also contributes to enrich the teacher’s knowledge and experience as a part of the student learning process. HOICS reflects an incentive to update knowledge and stimulate their initiative for a deeper research on the studied subjects. Program’s methodology enables teachers to get to know their students better and to keep a close communication with them. Teacher/Student dialogue is more direct and teamwork allows professor to observe and have a record of the student progress on concept comprehension and knowledge application.

Teachers and students enjoy the development of thematic units through experimentation, material manipulation and by handling living organisms. All this renews the classical classroom dynamic.

Teachers also improve communication with parents through the kids that share with them their analysis and findings, creating greater curiosity for their children’s activities in school and for their changes in attitude and knowledge.

INNOVEC invites all academic, business and social communities to join us in this effort that contributes to the creation of a more critical, autonomous and intelligent student, capable of making decisions that allows him to act with responsibility in the world beneath him.
